45cm Silk
Gavroches, gavs, pochettes, pocket scarves, pocket squares - by whatever name they are called they are lovely 45cm squares (16"). My collection actually began with a gav! It was a birthday gift in 2003: the classic Brides de Gala. For the longest time it languished in Ye Olde Scarf Drawer because I couldn't figure out what to do with it besides making a bias fold and wearing it around my neck like a choker (and good heavens the older I get the less I want to highlight my neck). But then I saw someone who'd paired two 45s together - MIND BLOWN!!! And so the slippery slope became that much more slippery.
Sometimes the designs are created for the small format or are miniature versions of their larger formats (like a 90cm carre or 140cm shawl). They are also often close-ups of certain corners or aspects of their bigger sisters ('detail' or 'zoom' versions). And, weirdly, many times the scarf title and other hallmarks of a 90cm like the artist signature are absent.
(As always, if you see AMIM - that stands for "Ask Me, I Might" - I might be willing to part with something in my collection. Drop me a note if you're interested, and check out that which I've already decided to re-home.)
