Hugo Grygkar
The German artist and the Hermes brand are inextricably intertwined. Hugo Grygkar designed the first scarf for Hermes, Jeu des Omnibus et Dames Blanches, which made its debut in 1937 (and was reissued in 2007 on its 70th anniversary). From there, he is credited with dozens of original scarf designs over the next 30 years. His most iconic work - Ex Libris and Brides de Gala - are re-imagined and re-designed through present times. For a terrific look at his artistic life, Carre de Paris has an excellent post about his work with Hermes.
That being said, I tend to stay away from classic designs. I also tend to stay away from classic literature, the opera, and classical music. This Brides de Gala gav I keep for sentimental reasons, and as you can see the two Ex Libris in Ye Old Scarf Drawer are re-imagined works.
