HERMES 90cm SILK SCARF - WILD SINGAPORE
by ALICE SHIRLEY
When I first saw this in my local boutique in February 2020 right before COVID lockdown, I thought 'lions have no meaning for me' and 'red and purple???'. I walked away. FOOL! My taste in scarves has certainly evolved over time, even over the past year.
For the life of me I can't recall where I found the graphic that lists the colorways of Wild Singapore, and apologies for the low resolution. For those who don't read blur, there are six colorways:
05: Rose / Vert / Bordeaux
03: Bleu Roy / Gold / Marine
02: Rouge / Violet / Beige Dore
17: Vert / Bleu Nuit / Orange
06: Jaune / Vert / Multicolore
08: Vert / Bleu / Rose (Special Edition)
And for those curious, a post on The Purse Forum as well as Alice Shirley's Instagram account identifies the following species appearing in the design:
Lesser dog faced fruit bat, Scaly breasted munia, Jambu fruit dove, Oriental pied hornbill, Common mime butterfly, Common tree nymph butterfly, Common bluebottle butterfly, tailed green jay butterfly, blue pansy butterfly, Leopard lacewing butterfly, Blue moth, Atlas moth, Plantain squirrel, Small toothed Palm civet, Masked palm civet, Malay civet cat, Banded surili, Blue throated bee-eater, Banded woodpecker, Laced woodpecker, Blue spotted bush frog, Black baza, Blue and white flycatcher, Yellow rumped flycatcher, Paradise tree snake, Cotton stainer bug, Barn swallow, Whimbrel, Long tailed macaque, Brown throated sunbird, Asian leopard cat, Great egret, Little egret, Black winged stilt, Purple swaphen, Stork billed kingfisher, Black backed kingfisher, Water monitor lizard, Lesser whistling duck, jade tree snail, Spiny hill terrapin, Blue-winged pitta, Crimson sunbird, Asian small clawed otter, Malay porcupine, Indian Muntjac deer, Greater mouse deer, Long-horned beetle, Orange headed thrush, Oriental dollarbird, lesser green leafbird, Buffy fish owl, Sunda pangolin, Sunda flying lemur, Sunda slow loris, Sunda scops owl, Thick billed green pigeon
From the Hermes Story Behind:
Alice Shirley pays tribute to the stunning biodiversity of Singapore. A key stopover for birds migrating from northern Asia to Australia, this fertile island dotted with mangroves and rainforests is home to some unique flora and fauna. Most of the animal species depicted under the tree canopy - bats, greater mouse-deer, leopard cats and Malayan civets - are nocturnal and only come out at nightfall. At the center of the composition, a lion in the form of a tropical fig tree watches over the nature of Singapore, whose name means "the city of the lion" in Sanskrit, in reference to its founding legend.
