HERMES 90CM SILK SCARF - TOUT EN CARRE BY BALI BARRET

Bali Barret spent 17 years at Hermes, starting as artistic director of silk in 2003 and ascending to artistic director of women's products in 2009. During her tenure she's credited with breathing new life into the silk division, recruiting new young artists and experimenting with different formats: laser-cut perforations, a round and a heart-shaped scarf, and most recently the double-sided scarf.

In addition to leading a team of artists and colorists, she also created more than 20 scarf designs of her own. Many of these designs tap into the iconic caleche, turning the classic carriage on its ear; some examples include Caleche Elastique, A Cheval sur Mon Carre, and this: Tout en Carre. 

Tout en Carre fills the shapes of the caleche components with snippets of classic scarf designs in a similar fashion to another of her designs, Monsieur et Madame. In this scarf we can see Etriers, Eperon d'Or and Couvertures et Tenues.

This colorway is for blue lovers! The background is a royal blue, with a thick interior turquoise border. Other colors include black, white, golden yellow, pale blue and moss green.

This 16-year-old scarf is in excellent condition for its age. The hems are plump, the caretag is attached. I see no holes, pulls or runs. I thought I saw a faint discoloration but haven't been able to capture it in a photo.
