HERMES 90cm SILK SCARF - CHEVAL A CARACTERE

The idea comes from a play on words based on the word ‘caractère'. In French the word ‘caractère' can express a temperament, a personality or an element of a typographical font. The surprises of the French language! All letters used in the illustration are H E R M È S. It is therefore a horse that has personality, temperament, drawn with typographical characters.
This scarf was originally issued in 2007, and the artist re-imagined it for the opening of Hermes Qatar in 2009, substituting the horse for an oryx, and including Arabic lettering.
Unlike most of my scarves, I cannot remember exactly where I purchased this (maybe Bergdorf? maybe my local boutique?). The black and white palette is hardly daring, but it goes with everything and is truly a, er, workhorse in the scarf drawer.
