HERMES 90CM SILK SCARF - CHANTECLAIR BY MAURICE TRANCHANT
At first I thought this 1974 design (re-issued in 2002) paid homage to Chaucer's Canterbury Tale, but that tale is about a rooster and a fox. Since this features a rooster and a bird, it appears this scarf was inspired by the 1910 play by Rostand which features a proud crowing rooster who is loved by a golden pheasant with beautiful plumage (there is also a nightingale, a blackbird, a guinea hen and gamecocks, and an evil hawk).
Scarf title: Chanteclair Scarf designer: Maurice Tranchant Year of Issue: 1974 (based on the folded caretag this is from the original issue rather than the 2002 re-issue) Size: appx 35” x 35” or 90cm square when stretched flat Material: 100% silk twill This colorway is a beautiful teal green with golden yellow. There appears to be a matte pale gold ink which adds a unique depth to the design. This 49-year-old scarf is in excellent condition for its age. The hems are plump, the caretag is attached. I see no holes, pulls or runs. SOLD Yes, I'm interested! |
