HERMES SILK MUFFLER - WOW! LE PREMIER CHANT
by EDOUARD BARIBEAU/SOPHIA ANDREOTTI and UGO BIENVENU
Back in 2022, Hermes released a mashup of Ugo Bienvenu's Wow! and Edouard Baribeau/Sophia Andreotti's Le Premier Chant. I was drawn to the cobalt blue and the white hem. I've had so many 90s with this cobalt blue and while I love the color and it loves me, it doesn't really mesh well with my closet. This gives just enough of a pop of that blue...
From the Hermes Story Behind for Wow!:
Young French artist Ugo Bienvenu is the creator of a series of short, animated films produced for the house, featuring the Hermès woman. He used them as inspiration for this appealing silk comic strip full of humor. The heroine travels across Paris in a sports car, on horseback, on rollerblades and by jet-ski. As she flies past, feisty and fearless in all circumstances, she is spotted by two golfers. “An Amazon?” they wonder. “No, the Hermès woman!” Presented on a double-sided scarf, the design plays on translation and color, offering a multicolored French version on one side and a monochrome English version on the other.
From the Hermes Story Behind for Le Premier Chant:
Sophia Andreotti and Edouard Baribeaud pay tribute to the creative energy of women, from Enheduanna, a Sumerian priestess and the earliest known poet whose name has been recorded, to painter Frida Kahlo and musician Patti Smith. As emblematic figures of their time, their view of the world and their freedom continue to inspire contemporary artists. The curtain opens and on stage a rock musician passionately sings to the world, her electric guitar propped nearby. From the microphone emerge parrots and butterflies in an eye-catching swirling motif; a wolf swiftly leaps into this scene brimming with art history references, particularly to Indian miniatures and traditional Mexican fabrics.
