HERMES 90cm SILK SCARF - HOMMAGE A L'EXPLORATEUR
SIR ERNEST SHACKLETON by ZOE PAUWELS
I typically associate Zoe Pauwels' designs leaning toward the graphic (Reve d'Australie) or abstract (L'Ivresse de l'Infini), but she also does more realistic scenes (La Vie Du Gran Nord) like this charming depiction of a harrowing true story: Shackleton's journey on the Endurance, which ran aground in the Antarctic in the 1800s. Though the ship was destroyed he led all 28 crewmen to safety in Chile - yay for happy endings. Not sure if the stranded seamen was as delighted as I am by happy penguins, curious seals, circling gulls, cavorting whales and playful sled dogs. (For a more lyrical and serious description of the scarf and more about the explorer himself, please visit Carre de Paris and the terrific writeup on her site.)
This soft pink shade and all the animals make this a favorite scarf. And while the title is annoyingly long I can always say "Shackleton" unlike the beast that is Roue Arriere du Carrosse Imperial de la Cour de Vienne.
