HERMES 70cm SILK SCARF - PARADE DE LEONHARDI
by SYLVIA KERR

I adore the harlequin background of this scarf, and while I hesitated over the brown it turned out to be a tabac shade that absolutely delights me. I've not seen a bad colorway of this scarf.

And that was about it for my feeling on this design, until I started learning more about what the art actually is: ceremonial bridle leathers from Bavaria. I was surprised with the German inspo since the artist is Scottish (I think her only other Hermes scarf is Fleurs d'Ecosse which features traditional Scottish flowers and symbols against a plaid background - it ties like a dream but I will always think of it as 'the picnic blanket scarf'; I had a lovely pink and red and blue colorway and while I was able to appreciate the plaid I always felt like an American flag wearing it so it's now ensconced in a dear friend's collection).

Anyhow. So this 2014 design is credited as 'the first Bavarian scarf' for Hermes. Not sure if there's a second. The idea for a Bavarian design was hatched at the opening of the Munich boutique, and is based on exquisite filigree quill embroidered harnesses. The harlequin background is inspired by the Bavarian flag.
