Michel Duchene

Michel Duchene has created iconic designs for Hermes scarves - he was entrusted to commemorate la maison's 150th anniverary scarf - and if you have spent any time on this site you know I don't do the classics. As a result the sole Duchene scarf appearing in YOSD is Reves d'espace, a 1993 creation issued in 90cm silk as well as 70cm cotton. So what compelled me? Two things: it's cotton, and it's got a space shuttle! My late father was an aeronautical engineer for Boeing and worked on the design of the Space Shuttle; any time I see a space shuttle I think of him. This, and Galaxy, are two scarves that drew me in because of the associations I see in the design and my dad. (And the blue colorway is incredibly versatile which also helps!)
