HERMES 90cm SILK SCARF - LA VALLEE DE CRISTAL
by UGO BIENVENU
Everyone loves a superhero, right? While many people were ooh-ing and aah-ing over the unicorn, I took one look at the crystals and said ‘oh that’s The Fortress of Solitude.’ No one does Fortress of Solitude like Christopher Reeve's 1970s Superman. TBH I’d like this scarf even more if the unicorn were replaced by Superman. (Henry Cavill is beyond-hot but Christopher Reeve will always by my Superman.)
Still, I stayed away from this design because I didn’t think any of the colorways was flattering or unique enough to merit a place in YOSD. But one day I popped in the boutique for something completely different and someone had this laid out on the display counter and I did a double take. I hadn’t realized just how much subtle gradient was in each crystal, and there’s even a bit of violet among the blues. It was the only Vallee in the boutique and I was so happy when the ladies who’d been eyeing it decided to explore other scarves. To quote the seagulls from Finding Nemo… mine!
From the Hermes Story Behind:
Beyond the misty mountains, something glows in the distance, like a speck of light. Could it be a mirage? No, it's the crystal valley, a precious oasis that takes us back for just a moment to the secret caves of our childhood dreams, riding a fantastical unicorn over magical quartz and shimmering crystal. There she stands, a majestic creature bathed in the light of countless iridescent glimmers, at the center of a unique world where the big open sky is reflected in the clear waters of a river. It's an apparition as sweet as sugar, an indulgent treat from Ugo Bienvenu.
