HERMES 70cm COTTON SCARF - JUNGLE LOVE
by ROBERT DALLET
Confession time: Robert Dallet is one of the most revered artists to ever design scarves for Hermes, but – perhaps because I think big cats are cool but not coooooooooooooool (I’m more of a bear gal) – I appreciate his artistry but not so much the scarves themselves. (While I’m confessing such unpopular opinions, let me add that Billy Joel, Elton John, Chicago, Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney leave me similarly meh. Fight me!)
For such a beloved artist, his work is under-represented in Ye Olde Scarf Drawer. Jungle Love is such a classic design and has been re-imagined many times (the rainbow treatment in multiple formats, the Valentine’s Day special Love edition, the stamped 70 and moussie…) but appreciation of this scarf eludes me. What I’m completely hooked on, however, is a cotton scarf. Because Texas is hot. Like, reallllly hot (as I type this, it's over 100 degrees outside).
So yeah when I saw this pop up I, er, pounced. Not only is it cotton, it’s a 70cm so less fabric. Win-win! Some would also be, um, charmed by the little dangle but I’ve not yet tied this in a way that highlights it. Kind of gets in the way. And I’m also not enraptured by the colorway. But it’s a cotton 70 and that’s all that counts!
From the Hermes Story Behind:
Two powerful, sleek leopards approach and observe one another, playing out their courtship ritual under the permanently astonished, round-eyed gaze of a bushbaby nestled among the leaves. Surrounded by orchids, butterflies and birds, paradise flycatchers, bee-eaters, sunbirds and lovebirds, the scene is full of emotion.
