HERMES CASHMERE GIANT TRIANGLE SCARF - COUP DE FOUET CHEMISE
by FLORENCE MANLIK
Coup de fouet translates to whiplash! But that's not why I added this to Ye Olde Scarf Drawer. No, it was a simple matter of sales goggles. One of my favorite resale shops often hosts Hermes scarves so when I'm in the neighborhood I pop in. Do I need cashmere? No. But do I love the giant triangle format?! Also no. Really, I have to fold it into smaller shapes in order to knot it well. It was just a budget-friendly price tag in keeping with its condition (no tag, several runs, a bit of pilling) and colors that work well with my complexion. Sometimes there is no deep meaning behind my scarves.
From the Hermes Story Behind:
Subtle lines, a delicate hand, flowing curves, long, complex volutes, and lively arabesques... The leather of the whips blends with the soft lines of the horses' heads, their ears pricked up and their manes glistening. Numerous symbols emerge from this interweaving: the meeting of two worlds, of horses and people, and the long process of craftsmanship and skills associated with them. How many times are movements and gaits repeated to perfection, like loops following one after the other? The shirt background of this triangle enhances the colors of the design, emphasizing the strength and structure of its lines.
