HERMES TWILLY SILK SCARF, 90cm WASH SILK SCARF - COLLIERS ET CHIENS by VIRGINIE JAMIN
I've been a lover of cocker spaniels my whole life. Grew up with one (because my mom grew up with one!). Some people's life goals are to win an Olympic medal, become a CEO, get a speaking role in a TV show. Mine? To have a dog. Which meant I had to earn enough to support one, live somewhere with a yard, and have the time to play with them. I achieved my life goal before I was 30, and through the years have owned and fostered more than 25 of the merry little beasts.
Like many dog-loving scarf fans, I'm always looking for my favorite spaniels memorialized in silk. There aren't that many: Tetes is one of the earliest cocker spaniel designs, issued in 1938; Chiens au Rapport, issued in 1987 and somewhat marred by having the spaniels holding unalive birds in their maws (in fairness, that's what they were bred for), and to my delight Colliers et Chiens.
Virginie Jamin adds a border to Colliers de Chiens, including a cocker spaniel holding a ballie in its mouth! Of course I had to bring these pups home. While I'm not a fan of floppy wash silk, I am a fan of the floppy spaniel ears, and I've rescued the 90cm from the Re-home pile several times.
From the Hermes website:
Virginie Jamin enhances her original Colliers de chiens composition with a set of canine portraits. Beautifully drawn, they border this revisited scarf in a series of medallions. At a time of automotive elegance and racing, dogs were pampered by their owners. Their collars even had to match their masters’ outfits, cars and luggage. Thus, Hermes created numerous models to satisfy these faithful companions, from the most sophisticated of poodles to the most robust of Pyrenean mountain dogs. Chequerboard Moroccan leather, rounded braid, inlaid leather, saddle-stitched, monochrome, two-tone, multi-colored… neatly aligned on their display, the patterns are endless.
