Claus Rye
To my knowledge, the young Danish children's book illustrator Claus Rye Schierbeck has designed one scarf for Hermes: the mens 100cm cashmere Grand Carrosse Royal. His Insta includes this story about entering the Grand Prix du Carre Hermes competition:
... I just entered the owls and elephants from this profile (seriously, I did). Among the 5500 entries I (and 97 others) was chosen to suggest a scarf composition. I sent one, but didn’t win. Instead I was invited to a ‘first meeting’ with the people of Studio Dessin at Hermès. It’s probably unwise to elaborate on whom I was expecting to meet, but these people are some of the nicest and most impressive professionals I’ve worked with. After our meeting I sent a portfolio with elaborations on some of their suggestions and some of mine, and from these they chose this one, which was not more than a thumbnail sketch at the very end of the portfolio.
A lot of sketches, a lot of learning, a lot of help and a lot of hours later. Here it is.
I’ll post some more on the process of making this 100 by 100 cm original.
