HERMES 70cm POLYESTER SCARF - BOUCLERIE D'ATTELAGE GLITTER
by FRANCOISE DE LA PERRIERE
If you've spent a minute looking at my (not so) little Hermes collection, you know I generally abhor classic equestrian designs. You also know I can't resist an unusual scarf. Here the unusual trumps the classic. Bouclerie d'Attelage is a 1970s design featuring buckles one finds on harness hitches. But in 2008 Hermes put this old design on a new fabric: silk blended with metallic polyester. They called it "Glitter" and the silver threads do glitter and shimmer. It's a bit fancy to wear often, and the polyester is a tad itchy, but the pink is so darn perfect.
Hermes continued to pursue the metallic treatment with Ex-Libris Glam (2009) and Disco Coaching Bandana (2019).
From the Hermes Story Behind (Bouclerie Moderne):
A harness is the name given to the set of elements allowing us to attach a horse to a carriage. This complex piece of equipment includes many buckles. At the end of the 1970s, inspired by pieces preserved in the Émile Hermès collection, Françoise de La Perrière designed a composition called Bouclerie d'attelage, thus paying homage to the original trade of the Maison's founder, the Parisian harness-maker Thierry Hermès.
