HERMES 80cm COTTON SCARF - BORD A BORD
by ELIAS KAFOUROS
I have become quite the fan of Hermes cotton scarves. They aren't often issued in a smaller size - they are mostly huge pareos, though there are a few cotton 70s from past years (Brides de Gala Mini and Jungle Love are two examples, and I'm always on the lookout for more!). In the hot southern clime even mousselines feel way too heavy, so my eyes lit up when I read that there would be a new cotton scarf (and 100% cotton at that, though the cotton/silk blends from the mens collection are also quite heavenly). Even better, it was from Elias Kafouros whose detail-rich work I adore. Extra bonus: a fabulous hem.
Just as surprising was the size. At 80cm (just under 32") this takes up a unique-for-now space between a 70cm and a 90cm. So, more fabric to play with but still a tad smaller than a traditional scarf. Result: breathability! There are four colorways: a white, a yellow, a blue and this pink (CW 03 rose dragee / bleu / jaune). TBH I could get all four and not feel bad at all. (For photos of the white and a lovely writeup please visit The Librain Retired - the blogger always has fabulous photos and details about the scarves she adds to her collection and I use it as a resource quite often.)
From the Hermes Story Behind:
Decked out with pennants and lanterns, boats and trawlers swirl endlessly around the united and magnetic center of this nautical square, emphasizing their joyful circle. Born in Greece, and with his deep love for the island of Sifnos, Elias Kafouros captures the hours he has spent watching the boats and their reflections in the small, sunny ports of the Aegean Sea.
